Midland Valley Young Farmer Association Named South Carolina Adult Program of the Year
The Midland Valley Young Farmer Association, which is the adult agriculture program for Midland Valley community members, was named by the South Carolina Association of Agricultural Educators as the Adult Education Program of the Year in the State of South Carolina.  The group which typically meets every third Tuesday of the month will now be competing for the title of National Adult Program of the Year for 2009.

Midland Valley Young Farmers is a group committed to education and promotion of environmentally appropriate production, marketing, and processing of food, feed and fiber. Our adult education in agriculture program provides individual and group organized instruction to agriculturists and consumer public in the local community. Specifically, the program is designed to assist those in production, agriculture, and agribusiness to become successfully established or to improve their current agricultural status. Also, an educational focus is to improve understanding and communication between the consumer public and the agricultural community regarding common concerns and issues.

S.C. Agricultural Educator Recieves National Award
Jeremy Brooks, agricultural education instructor at Midland Valley High School, Graniteville, SC, was named recipient of the Outstanding Adult Agricultural Education Program award for the southern states region. As a result of being one of the top six adult agricultural instructors in the nation, Jeremy will be presented a Toyota Tundra truck with a two-year lease at a special ceremony during the SC FFA-State Legislators Recognition Luncheon at the State Fair Grounds on Wednesday, February 24, 2010.

Midland Valley Young Farmer Association Named Top in Region
The Midland Valley Young Farmer Association was recognized as the Outstanding Chapter in the Lower-State Region at a recent conference of agriculturalists held in Charleston South Carolina. 

The chapter, recently nationally recognized for its outstanding work by the  National Association of Agriculture Educators, is a major funding source for the local Midland Valley High FFA Association by provide the chapter an opportunity to award a number of valuable scholarships to students.

The chapter also provides volunteers and equipment to the Midland Valley High School Agriculture Department and FFA Association.

Bolt Recieves Outstanding Service Award
Cleatus Bolt Sr. of Trenton was presented an Outstanding Service Award by the SC Young Farmer and Agribusiness Association at a recent conference of agriculturalists in Charleston.

Mr. Bolt who is retired and working part time for the county has been an active member of the Midland Valley Young Farmer and Agribusiness Chapter for a number of years.

Brooks Takes Top State Honors In Agriculture
Hope Brooks, president of the Midland Valley Young Farmer and Agribusiness Chapter, Graniteville, SC, was recently named State Winner in the Horticulture Awards and Recognition Program of the SC Young Farmer-Agribusiness Association, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the organization.

“Mrs. Brooks was recognized at the annual conference of the organization in Myrtle Beach where she received a plaque and cash award provided by the SC Nursery and Landscape Association and Jaderloon, Inc.,” Parris said.




In addition to taking top state honors in Horticulture, Mrs. Brooks was named recipient of the Outstanding Agribusiness Award for the Lower-state Region and received a plaque and cash award sponsored by the Pee Dee Federal Savings Bank of Marion and Mullins, SC.

Mrs. Brooks, a production assistant for Layman Wholesale Nurseries located in Trenton, SC, is responsible for ordering all plugs and plant materials, quality control, photographing all finished products for store tagging and supervising crews during production and shipping seasons. She is also responsible for the new purchase order system used to track incoming and on-hand products. The nursery has more than 13 million plants of over 300 varieties on the ground.

Brooks Is Outstanding President of Agricultural Group
Hope Brooks of North Augusta was recently named Lower-State Region winner in the Outstanding Chapter President Award category by the South Carolina Young Farmer- Agribusiness Association, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs for the organization.

The announcement of Mrs. Brooks’ selection for this prestigious award was made at the annual conference of the organization held in Charleston. She received a plaque and cash award from the Massey-Ferguson Company who sponsors the recognition program in concert with the adult agricultural education organization.
